Cannabis Providing Housing for the Homeless

Los Angeles is trying to house their homeless with a tax bill proposed on marijuana. After reviewing ideas to address homelessness in Los Angeles, the city’s budget analysts narrowed down their ideas to nine. Their proposed plan would tax marijuana at 15 percent and is estimated to generate $16.6 million a year. With Los Angeles having one of the largest homeless populations in America, city officials see this as a way to generate funds to address it.

Their proposals are searching for new ways to address this growing issue, which has increased 12% in two years time.

Even as our economy improves, we do not anticipate to have an additional $1.78 billion over the next 10 years to dedicate for this purpose – Administrative Officer Miguel Santana

Marijuana might be the key to addressing the large homeless population in Los Angeles, if this proposal does pass we can assume cities will take note to see if something like this is right for them.
