Marijuana: DEA or Scientists know best?

As more and more Americans are finding out, cannabis is a tool for addressing medical conditions and not just a recreational drug. For thirteen‐year‐old Jennifer, she faced a life threatening illness and her family took measures into their own hands as they felt their government let them down – they left Virginia and moved to Colorado. They are not the first and definitely not the last family to take such extreme measures to address their children’s health issues.

This topic brings up a very good point, should the United States Drug Enforcement Agency manage what substances are deemed to have no medical value, or is this a debate for the medical community to decide? Currently marijuana is a schedule 1 drug, which is classified as the most dangerous and has zero medical value. It is put in a category next to LSD, ecstasy, and heroin.

Parents and doctors are fighting to get this issue addressed, their hope is for children all over the United States, like Jennifer, to get the help they need.
