Publix Heir Donates $800,000 to Fight Florida Medical Marijuana Legalization

The family that founded the beloved Florida supermarket chain Publix has donated $800,000 to fight the legalization of medicinal cannabis in the Sunshine State.

The Miami New Times reports that the Carol Jenkins Barnett Family Trust donated $800,000 in mid-July to Drug Free Florida, the group campaigning to kill Florida’s proposed medical cannabis amendment.

Drug Free Florida is the group that helped torpedo the state’s 2014 medical marijuana amendment, which fell just two percentage points shy of the 60 percent vote it needed to pass. The group drew national media attention for their Reefer Madness-style videos against the 2014 amendment.
