Dear Dan,
Do light rails have any effect on yield or would I be better off with two lights in a 4×8 tent? — Thomas
Dear Thomas,
Light rails are tracks that are installed onto the ceiling of a growroom upon which grow light reflectors move slowly back and forth over plants. When installed properly, the rails spread light over a larger space than stationary lighting while reducing electrical costs and lowering ambient heat levels. Another advantage of lighting fixtures moving on rails is that they bring light to branches that might not be receiving enough light from a stationary bulb.
Because light rails move the lighting, overall yield can be reduced. If you employ two lights in your space, your yield will be larger, of course depending on your ability to handle the extra heat and the intensity of stationary lights. So, you’ll yield more with two stationary lights versus one light moving on a rail, but you must consider the advantages and drawbacks of either method.
